See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

oh shit haha wait

blizzard did break this entirely, because they also simply broke account-wide ignore.  it’s back to ignoring only specific characters.

so if you are trying to avoid someone the best you can do is try to check against some of those armory-scanning sites that guess alts by matching achievements and pets.  if you can cross-check posts by two characters you suspect to be the same, the post count, which is an account-total, is a strong hint.

so, the original use of the addon is kaput.  but a lot of people do still have it installed and a lot of people might like some usability tweaks for the current forum, and i can still push auto-updates, so i’ll work on tossing out the old code and transitioning the addon into a small, simple “enhancer” type of addon– the kind of stuff you can get through greasemonkey.

Just an update that I got started on work tonight.  Because Blizzard changed all the ID used for ignore, one of my main concerns is implementing a scheme where previously delisted accounts are still delisted, as that was all done with the old IDs.  Right now, if I only fixed things for the changes in page structure on the forums, the system would think no one is delisted.

But also, since all the IDs are new and I don’t see an obvious algorithmic mapping from old to new, the alt database is basically going to restart fresh, unless I figure out a way to link old to new with reasonable confidence using the data I have available.

Incidentally, right now my database is at 2.3 million alts / 1 million battle.net accounts.  There are 1965 delisted accounts right now, and I don’t intend to let down two thousand people here.  I can still use the existing alt data to decide that a new account ID should be covered by an old delisted account ID.

After the backend changes, I still also have to update the addon for the new forum layout.  It actually looks better-structured and easier to work with, at least.  Once everything is back in working order, I’ll look into things like style / readability tweaks.

Legion Forum Update

It looks like nothing significant has changed.  It may even be easier for me to work with the forum, and ignores are still handled client-side, and there are still account-unique IDs exposed, but they seem to be masked or otherwise abstracted from the IDs previously exposed.

That means, barring analysis, that the entire database will effectively start anew.  It also means there’s no simple way to roll old delistings from the old IDs to the new.

I’ll get around to looking at it this weekend.

Sigs and Avatars

I’ve wanted to open these features up to more people for a while, but I didn’t want a completely open system where a few bad eggs could use my system for gross stuff and I’d have to clean it up after the fact.

Instead, I’ve built a system where anyone can request an avatar or signature, and that request goes into a queue for approval.  I’m not here to check your grammar or jokes, but some things that I consider to be simple decency, or in line with the tone Blizzard wants on their forum:

I think these “don’t be an ass” rules are pretty straightforward and I do have the means to ban users from submitting requests at all.

I feel you made this addon for one Basically your addon is being used by a small group to enforce their status-quo and drive anyone they dislike off their servers. My question is basically what do I need to do to get a completely fresh Forum ID from Blizzard? Do I need a New B-net? Can I open one and then transfer my veteran Acc to a new B-net? Any help to avoid these people and play in peace would be appreciated. At my wits end here. Two good friends have quit and I'm next. Please help Quinnie.

for one good purpose*, but it’s being abused by others for less than good reasons. (typo correction)

Hi, I’m not sure if you’re the same person as just before, I think your ask came in at nearly the same time (on a timescale of hardly receiving asks here).  If you’re not, and won’t necessarily get a message about it, I want to point you to my other response first.

There isn’t really a way to get a new ID number, it’s just the ID number that matches your Battle.net account.  I’ve never heard of Blizzard moving an entire game license between accounts, so the only means I know of to start fresh while keeping some in-game progress is to make a new bnet account, get a game license on it, and transfer characters one at a time.  You would probably want to change character names at the same time, make sure achievements are unlinked, rearrange pet slots, and possibly even change appearance.

Basically, there’s no easy way.  It shouldn’t be on you to put all that work in to get away from harassers though.  They need to be removed.

How can I sever myself completely from being tracked by this addon? I want to enjoy Legion in peace, but several people have made it their life mission to track me by use of YOUR addon to any server I go. Do I need to make a completely new B-net account, and forgo all my 10 years of playtime to get away from this? Please don't act like this doesn't happen all the time. I know Moon Guard has a very robust group of RP trolls that do just that. Its spreading to Kirin Tor now thanks to this addon.

If your account is delisted, the addon doesn’t show anything to other users unless you post with two characters literally on the same page of a thread.  That status is only ever reversed if I see someone trying to use it as a veil for bad behavior.

The addon isn’t the only means for seeking out alts though; there are a couple websites that probe the armory and link alts.  Disabling the account-wide achievement score for each character reduces the ability to correlate alts this way, but the battle pet roster is also a potential tell, and that can’t be disabled.

On the forum itself, without any addons, someone dedicated enough can just have you ignored and find you by browsing around.

I believe the other sites mentioned above have methods for hiding your alts, but ultimately, Blizzard seems content to leave these holes open, if not open them even more.  Everyone is picking up alts by linking open data, which means any bad actor could be doing it too.

I do act on reports of misbehavior using my tools, provided I have reports to go on.  I ban people who use them for harassment, but there’s only so much effect I can have.  It’s most important to report harassment to Blizzard, who have much more ability to see what’s going on and shut it down.  Sometimes they need a fire lit under them to address it and look through the logs though, unfortunately.

Version 1.9.0

This version is mostly an overhaul and cleanup to satisfy the Firefox review, but it also includes some bug fixes and shouldn’t bump the screen around as much – the colored border won’t shift page content anymore, for example.

Firefox:  In review.

Chrome: Published.

Edit 2015-07-20:  1.9.0 for Firefox is signed and published.  It should auto-update.  It did lose the full addon name and icon, I’ll fix that later.
